Pajama Shorts Sewing Pattern – Studio Rosado

Sewing instructions:

1. Side Seam:

Lay front shorts panel right sides together with the back shorts panel. Pin both side seams. Stitch. Neaten allowances and press towards the back.

2. Joining The Frill:

Set the sewing machine stitch length to 4. Sew a line 4mm apart from the upper edge. Sew another line 3mm apart from the previous line. Don’t backstitch!

Pull upper threads from both ends and gather the fabric.

Lay the shorts panel right side facing the frill panel right side. Match the frill’s notch with the side seam. Stitch. Neaten the allowances and press downwards.

2. Crotch Seam:

Neaten each crotch seam edge seperately.
With one leg right side out and one leg wrong side out, slip the leg with the right side out into the other leg. (So both right sides are facing each other.)
Match the seams. Stitch the centre seam. Stitch it a second time 1mm away to reinforce the seam.
Press seams open.
Press seams open.

3. Preparing The Waistband:

Lay the waistband pieces together with the right sides facing. Pin the side seams and stitch. Press the allowances open.

Fold the waistband on half and press it.

Lay the sides of the elastic band on top of each other to make a flat seam. Stitch it with the swing machine.

Put the elastic band inside the waistband.

Secure the elastic band inside the waistband by topstitching 7mm apart from the open edge.

4. Joining The Waistband:

Lay the waistband right side together with the shorts. Match the waistband’s side seams with the shorts’ side seams and the notches with the crotch seam. Stitch. Neaten the seam.

Turn the waistband up and press the seam towards the shorts.

5. Hem:

For light fabrics we recommend to use the so called Moscow seam. It’s slightly more time consuming, but we promise you will get a very refined result.
Fold 5mm of the hem allowance and stitch 1-2mm apart from the edge.

Carefully cut off the folded seam allowance without cutting in the stitch or the main fabric!

Fold 3mm of the allowance again
and stitch 2mm apart from the edge. Press.

Give the final press and you’ve finished!
