Inna Multi-Way Wrap Skirt Sewing Pattern – Studio Rosado

Sewing instructions:

1. Preparing the Waistband:

Making a hole in the side seam:
Lay the front and back waistband pieces together with the right sides facing. Pin the side seams matching the notches.

Make 3 seams:
1. Stitch starting from the upper edge to the first notch. Don’t forget to backstitch.
2. From the 2nd to 3rd notch.
3. From 4th notch to lower edge.

Press the allowances open.

P.S. If you don’t want a hole in the side seam, simply make a straight stitch.

Fold the waistband on half and press it.

Unfold the waistband. Press the seam allowance on one side of the waistband starting from one notch to another.

Closing the hole in the side seam:
Fold the waistband on the side seam. Back and front waistband right sides are facing. Keep the upper seam allowance folded towards the waistband.
Fold the waistband on half lengthwise by matching the notches. Pin the side seam. Stitch from the uper notch to the lower notch (through 2 layers only!).
Repeat it with the other side.
Fold the waistban lengthwise with the right sides facing. Pin the tails of the waistband starting from the notch. Sew around the edge.
Trim corners at angle.
Turn the tails of the waistband from inside out. Press the tails while trying to get the stitch as close to the edge as possible to achieve nice sharp corners and edges.

2. Skirt Side Seams:

Lay back panel with the front panels right sides facing. Pin the side seams. Stitch.
Neaten the seam (both layers together).
Press the seams towards back panel.

3. Front Edges:

For light fabrics we recommend to use the baby hem. It’s slightly more time consuming, but we promise you will get a very refined result.

Fold 1cm (3/8”) of the seam allowance and stitch 1-2mm (1/16”) apart from the edge.
Carefully cut off the folded seam allowance without cutting in the stitch or the main fabric!
Fold 3mm (3/32”) of the allowance again and stitch 2mm apart from the edge. Press.

4. Joining The Waistband:

Lay waistband (that side you haven’t pressed before) on the skirt panels right sides facing. Match the side seams and openings. Pin. Stitch.

Press the seam towards waistband.
Handstitch the waistband at the lower edge so the previously pressed seam allowance of the waistband covers the stitch that joins the waistband with the skirt’s panels.

Stitch in the ditch:
Work from the right side. Stitch in the ditch of the seam. Take your time and lightly pull the fabric on either side of the machine’s needle as you guide it through the ditch.
This way the seam won’t be really visible from the right side.

5. Hem:

Let’s use the baby hem again!
Fold 1cm (3/8”) of the hem allowance
and stitch 2mm apart from the edge. Press.
Carefully cut off the folded seam allowance without cutting in the stitch or the main fabric!

Fold 3mm of the allowance again
and stitch 2mm apart from the edge. Press.

Give the final press and you’ve finished!
