Mia shorts and leggings Sewing Pattern – Studio Rosado

SewIng instructions:

Note: for this garment and other stretch jersey projects we recommend using a 4 thread overlock stitch but you can also use a sewing machine + zigzag stitch.

1. Joining The Legs:

Lay front legging panel right sides together with the back legging panel. Pin both side seams. Stitch. Press the seam allowance towards the back.
Pin inside leg seams and stitch. Neaten the seams. Press the seams towards the back.

2. Centre Seam:

With one leg right side out and one leg wrong side out, slip the leg with the right side out into the other leg. (So both right sides are facing each other.)

Match the seams and notches. Stitch. Press the seam allowance to one side.

3. Preparing The Waistband:

Lay the waistband piece together with the right sides facing. Pin the side seam and stitch. Press the allowance open.
Fold the waistband on half and press it.
Lay the sides of the elastic band on top of each other to make a flat seam. Stitch it with the swing machine.
Put the elastic band inside the waistband matching the seams.
If you’re a novice creator: secure the elastic band inside the waistband by sewing a zigzag stitch around the open edge 5mm apart from the edge.

4. Joining the waistband:

Lay the waistband right sides together with the leggings. Match the waistband seam with the leggings’ back center seam and the waistband notch with the front center seam. Stitch.
Turn the waistband up and press the seam towards the leggings. Work from the right side of garment to topstitch waistband 5mm next to joining seam catching inside waistband.
5. Hem:
Neaten hem allowance, turn to inside and pin. Topstitch the lower edge 2 cm wide, catching hem. Use a zigzag, 3 step stitch or other sewing machine stitch that  is more elastic compared to the regular straight stitch.

Give the final press and you’ve finished!
